Site Survey & Analysis
The Site Survey and Analysis are usually completed during one visit to your garden.
The Site Survey is where we come to measure and survey your garden in order to produce and accurate drawing of its shape and topography on paper. Depending on the size and nature of the garden this can take anything from an hour to a day, but for most clients it normally takes us about two hours and of course it always rains! From our measurements we can draw up an accurate site survey. This shows the existing features that are going to stay and will form the basis of the design.
The Site Analysis is the next stage and is where we critically asses the site to work out what is good about it and what is a problem which might need tackling. For example you may have some existing mature trees or shrubs that you wish to keep and look attractive or you may have an unsightly building nearby that you wish us to hide from view. We take note of the general character of the wider environment, to ensure any design sits harmoniously with the style and nature of the house and surroundings.
We also consider the aspect of the garden, that is the which direction on a compass is faces, and from that can work out how the sun travels through the garden during the day. We take account of other climatic factors such as general wind direction, rainfall and possible frost pockets for example. All of these will influence the choice of plants we choose for your garden.
At the same time we would try and identify any potential drainage issues or pest and disease problems you may have. We also analyse the soil to identify its pH, nutrient status and the texture, all of which will determine the type of plants that will suit and thrive in your soil.
